Dispelling the ADD-ADHD Myth by Beverly Moss

For many of us, one of the latest terms - 'multi-tasking' is appropriate for our busy lifestyle. But for many adults, the problem can be much more serious. They may suffer from ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder). A recent report, released during the ADD and ADHD Awareness Week, states that 60 to 85 percent of children with these disorders may continue to meet those criterias during their teenage years, and 50 percent into adulthood.

If you suffer from ADHD your mind is like a roller coaster. You're impulsive, talk too much and have difficulty listening. Always on the go you find it difficult to relax. When talking to people you constantly interrupt. You spend money recklessly, forget important dates and have difficulty focusing.

On the other hand, if you suffer from ADD you are easily distracted, lose things, are forgetful, disorganized, fail to complete projects and find it difficult to focus. You're inattentive, careless and a poor listener.

"It is a myth that only children have ADD or ADHD", Dr. Chris Kuhne says, "Because these disorders are often unrecognized in adults they are often misdiagnosed as suffering from depression. The good news is that a high percentage of the people who suffer from ADD or ADHD are uniquely talented and gifted. Once proper steps are taken they are able to focus and their lives become more manageable, not only themselves, but for those around them."

A board-certified specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1992, Dr. Kuhne has practiced medicine in the Richardson, Plano and Frisco areas for two decades and has a combined family OB/GYN experience exceeding the half century mark. His extensive experience and empathy allow him to successfully treat a variety of women's needs including weight loss, high-risk obstetrics, cancer-detection, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and complete basic female infertility.
